| A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT We are proud to forward you our second edition of The Brentwood Group newsletter. This year has been a challenge and we feel the best and brightest will survive. We are half way there and have spent the first part of the year on how to work the "smartest" providing the "highest" quality research to our clients. We are sharpening our research skills and tools, as you will see through our database, Internet, and industry experience. The staff at Brentwood is really excited about the remainder of the year and continued growth in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, as well as others. CANDIDATE
TRACKING Over the past few months, we have participated on a client's core team to provide support on their modification of a candidate tracking software package, Recruitsoft. The software is interactive via the Internet. The client creates a requisition of the search requirements. It encompasses the use of job boards, the client's database and dry research in search for candidates. It allows communication between the client and prospect and enables you as the user to evaluate their skills as it relates to the job description. Information is captured and maintained so the client can interview the prospect. Our goal is that after we source a candidate we can link their criteria directly into our client's database for their review and use; thereby enabling an automated link between our research/sourcing efforts and our client's needs. |
QUALITY
RESPONSES As our clients know, we send out monthly quality letters requesting feedback on their assignments. They are sent to select clients whom we have recently worked on an assignment for. BRENTWOOD'S DATABASE By Sue Gordon Our database continues to grow! We now have nearly 27,000 records to search through. We have several people who are capable of using the system and all of its capabilities and the rest of the staff are learning as well. Glenda has been trained on creating reports, which have helped us to use the database more efficiently. For example, we have the capability of creating a target list for our clients to review as an assignment begins. We can pull specific titles for select companies for these target companies as well. As we continue to build our database, one of the basics that we have made mandatory for each assignment is to identify specific industry and function codes. We use the Standard Industrial Classification codes (SIC) as determined by the U.S. government to identify the primary business of the company. Using these codes in SHS will allow us to search and sort people and company data by a specific industry and/or function code. As we continue conducting research it helps us to facilitate the collection and analysis of the data; as well as promote uniformity of the information and as a reference for new assignments. As a note to our clients, we now have two different program files for viewing our database reports, an earlier version and a later version. As you can see, we are continuing to utilize our new data tool. |

| FINANCIAL SERVICES
We are pleased to say that the search is going well. Over ten candidates have been presented. We have the knowledge and the ability to use various sources to find qualified candidates. The methods we use may vary from search to search, depending on what is required. But the outcome is the same - qualified candidates with the required credentials. Brentwood offers a quality and personal touch that isn't found in other search firms. The interview process is in progress for the Director of Finance position. We are confident that the perfect candidate will be hired for this position. We now have been successful on Spanish- and Chinese- speaking assignments. |
PHARMACEUTICAL
Over the past six months we have seen changes in recruiting for the pharmaceutical industry, both from the client and the candidate side. This results in challenges as well as rewards! From the industry perspective we see targeted hiring in certain key areas,
such as Medical Directors and roles in marketing. For a recent market
research project, we looked at large and small pharmaceutical companies,
as well as agencies and secondary data providers. Many potential candidates
had recently moved from an agency to industry. The successful candidates,
who had come from within the pharmaceutical industry, are thrilled with
the opportunity, and the client is confident that they have selected the
best persons for the positions. We expect these trends to continue, with keen competition for those key positions in pharmaceuticals. Because of our experience and networking in all functional areas in pharmaceuticals, we are able to support our clients very effectively. |
TECHNOLOGY ABOUNDS
One of the best ways to locate skilled potential candidates is to target their user groups. User groups are very interesting organizations. The good news is you are virtually assured of a quality targeted audience. The bad news is you can be instantly thrown off if you use them inappropriately or exclusively. The Internet allows recruiters to contact thousands of individuals with job opportunities. There are so many recruiters on the Internet that they can blend together in the candidate's minds. Our challenge is to Stand Out from any other executive recruiting firm. We build relationships with our candidates and value them! We like to focus and become well known in the industry areas in which
we are recruiting. Most cities have web sites that deal with career opportunities.
Become familiar with the community and let them become familiar with you.
Some of the best candidates come from a referral. BANKING
We currently are working on several assignments in the banking area, from sales to vice presidents. The banking industry is going through changes and of course there are always mergers. Banking recruitment offers a unique challenge and the resources and tools that we utilize help us find the perfect match. |
